Privacy Policy

This policy explains what information SmartNutrition (smartnutrition.site) collects, how it’s used, and the choices you have. We’ve written it in plain language and kept it as short as we can.

Last updated: 30 September 2026Applies to: smartnutrition.site

Privacy at a glance

  • No account needed

    You can use every tool without signing up or giving your name.

  • Recipes stay on your device

    The calculator runs in your browser. We don’t receive the recipes you enter.

  • Email only if you write

    We only see your name and email when you choose to contact us.

  • We don’t sell data

    We never sell or rent your personal information to anyone.

Who we are

SmartNutrition is a free website that helps people estimate the calories, macronutrients and other nutrients in their own recipes. In this policy, “SmartNutrition”, “we”, “us” and “our” mean the operator of smartnutrition.site, and “you” means anyone who visits or uses the website.

Information we collect

We try to collect as little as possible. The information involved falls into three groups.

Information you give us

  • When you contact us: the contact form opens your own email app with your message filled in. If you send it, we receive your name, your email address, the topic you chose, your message and the page you sent it from.

Information collected automatically

  • Server logs: like almost every website, our hosting server records basic technical details when a page loads, such as your IP address, browser type, device type, the page requested, the referring page and the date and time.

Information stored only on your device

  • Custom ingredients: if you add your own ingredient in the calculator, it is saved in your browser’s local storage so you can use it again. It is not sent to us.

The calculator and your recipes

All calculations happen inside your web browser. Recipe names, descriptions, ingredients, quantities and results are not sent to our server and are not stored by us. When you close or reload the page, the recipe is cleared.

If you use Copy Summary, the text is placed on your own clipboard. If you use Print or Download PDF, the report is created on your device. When you download a PDF, your browser loads a small open-source PDF tool (jsPDF) from the cdnjs content network, which is operated by Cloudflare.

How we use information

  • To reply to your messages and requests, such as adding a new ingredient or checking a result.
  • To keep the website running, secure and free from abuse.
  • To understand technical problems and improve the website.
  • To meet legal obligations where they apply.

We don’t use your information to make automated decisions about you, and we don’t build profiles of individual visitors.

Cookies and local storage

Cookies are small text files a website saves in your browser. Local storage works in a similar way. Here is what may be stored when you use SmartNutrition:

ItemPurposeStored until
Custom ingredients (local storage)Remembers ingredients you added so you can use them againYou clear your browser data
Website platform cookiesSet by WordPress for essential functions, for example if you leave a comment or sign inSession, or up to one year
Analytics or advertising cookiesOnly if these services are in use; see Third-party servicesSet by each provider

You can block or delete cookies and local storage in your browser settings. The calculator still works if you do, but custom ingredients won’t be remembered.

Third-party services

Some parts of the website are delivered by other companies. When your browser loads them, those companies receive your IP address and basic browser details, as described in their own privacy policies.

  • Google Fonts provides the typefaces used on this site. Google Privacy Policy
  • cdnjs (Cloudflare) provides the PDF tool, only when you download a PDF. Cloudflare Privacy Policy
  • Our hosting provider stores the website and its server logs.

Analytics and advertising

We may use services such as Google Analytics to understand how many people visit and which pages are useful, and Google AdSense to show ads that help keep SmartNutrition free. If these are in use:

  • Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites.
  • Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and other sites on the internet.
  • You can opt out of personalised advertising in Google Ads Settings, or opt out of some third-party vendors’ use of cookies at aboutads.info.
  • You can learn more in How Google uses information from sites that use its services.

Sharing and selling

We do not sell, rent or trade your personal information. We only share it when we need to:

  • with service providers that run the website for us, such as hosting and email, who may only use it to provide their service;
  • if the law requires it, or to protect the rights, safety and property of SmartNutrition, our visitors or others.

How long we keep data

  • Emails you send us: kept for as long as needed to answer you and handle any follow-up, then deleted.
  • Server logs: kept for a limited period set by our hosting provider, then deleted automatically.
  • Custom ingredients: stay in your own browser until you delete them or clear your browser data.

Your rights and choices

Depending on where you live, including under the GDPR in the UK and European Union and privacy laws in California and other US states, you may have the right to:

  • ask what personal information we hold about you and receive a copy;
  • ask us to correct or delete it;
  • object to or restrict how we use it;
  • withdraw consent where we rely on it, such as for cookies;
  • complain to your local data protection authority.

To make a request, email us using the details in Contact us. We’ll reply within the time required by law, and we won’t treat you differently for using your rights.

Children’s privacy

SmartNutrition is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. We don’t knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

Security

The website is served over an encrypted HTTPS connection, and we limit who can access the information we hold. No method of sending or storing information online is completely secure, so we can’t guarantee absolute security, but we take reasonable steps to protect it.

Health information

We don’t ask for health or medical information, and the recipes you enter are not sent to us. Please don’t include health details in messages you send us.

SmartNutrition provides general nutrition estimates, not medical advice. For advice about your health or diet, please speak to a doctor or registered dietitian.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when the website or the law changes. When we do, we’ll change the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. If a change is significant, we’ll make it clear on the website.
